The Village - Grambois

Grambois is one of a dozen traditional villages perchés in the South Luberon and probably the prettiest. It is perched on the top of a hill, and cascades down the hillside. There is a chateau (private residence so no visits), a Romanesque church, an Art Gallery, a bar/café (no food), a mini-supermarket, a bakery, post office, tourist office and two resident doctors. Other “commerces” at the foot of the hill leading up to the village include a hairdresser, pharmacy, physiotherapist, wine cellar (sales), a café (no evening meals) and an inn with restaurant and accommodation.

The village itself is delightful to explore with little nooks and crannies, small squares, interesting and original old houses, fountains and former lavoirs (where the villagers used to do their washing) and from every side lovely views over the surrounding countryside with the Luberon mountain chain, vineyards, rolling open country, and woodlands. The population of the village is around 1200 including the surrounding area, about 300 people reside within the village walls..
